WELCOME

The Access Centre for Students with Disabilities (ACSD) is responsible for providing assistance to students with disabilities to facilitate their right of access to educational opportunities and services as well as their integration into university life.  The Access Centre for Students with Disabilities provides this service in collaboration with students, faculty, and staff.

mission statement

Our goal is to help develop the students’ full potential and to encourage them to develop the necessary skills to become effective self-advocates and productive, contributing members of the student body.

purpose

The ACSD staff works to coordinate and arrange support services for students with disabilities.  Among the most important kind of such support is, where necessary or appropriate, the provision of accommodations for students with documented disabilities.  Specifically, accommodations are academic adaptations that provide students who have disabilities an opportunity to succeed and can include the following: physical access to facilities (e.g., wheelchair accessibility), exam accommodations (e.g., providing extended time for a test or an alternative, quieter testing location), other services or auxiliary aids (e.g., a note-taker, tape recording of lectures), etc.
